As a last word I am very well aware we have a drug problem in our community and school. Prescription drugs are being abused by students and others. While this may make us angry that our children in school are exposed to this issue there are underlying causes that cause these children to turn to drugs. They need our help. I believe the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support system and the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program that I personally investigated and pushed for is a step in the right direction. Despite a survey that indicated our parents were supportive of a School Resource Officer by nearly a 2 to 1 margin I lost this battle. It is often misunderstood in that the role of an SRO is not to arrest students but to assist in identifying and garnering help for troubled students while protecting those that need protection. I have not given up on this, and I never will.

Hole in the Wall Gang NYC "Big Apple" circus fundraiser

Beyond my dedication to kids in our school I am also the internal chair of a fundraising effort for my company on behalf of children with cancer and serious illnesses. Below are some links to documents and information about this effort and the camp. Last year we rose over $700,000 for the Hole in the Wall Gang Foundation founded by actor Paul Newman that sends ill children to camp with appropriate medical care provided around the clock to them. If your child is seriously ill or if you know someone in our area who you believe would have an interest in attending this camp, please contact me as indicated on this site or through the school. I would be more than happy to personally submit your application to Jimmy Canton, the CEO of the camp. Link to hole in Wall Web Page, www.holeinthewallgang.org Link to Sample thank you letter.
